Calculate your agricultural emissions

This calculator can provide you with a simple estimate of the greenhouse gases emitted and absorbed by your farm. It uses the same methods and emission factors as the MfE 2022 Measuring Emissions Guidance.

Using this calculator

This calculator provides you with a simple approach to estimating greenhouse gas emissions from animals, manure management, and nitrogen fertiliser use on your farm, as well as the carbon sequestered in forests.

If you need a more detailed estimate or want to include vegetation and mitigations other than those included here, refer to the He Waka Eke Noa Factsheet.

Note: No record will be kept of the data you enter. You can print or download your results from the results area of the calculator.

About this calculator

This tool has been produced to support the He Waka Eke Noa | Primary Sector Climate Action Partnership by the Ministry for the Environment.

The method used for the calculation in this tool is the same as that used in our Measuring Emissions Interactive Workbook 2020, which has been accepted by He Waka Eke Noa.

The approach used by this tool is very simple and does not account for factors such as more emissions-efficient production methods. If you want a more accurate estimate, other tools can be used for many types of farms. See the He Waka Eke Noa Factsheet for more detail.

Note: This tool is designed to help build understanding of your greenhouse gas footprint as part of the awareness-building milestones for He Waka Eke Noa. Work is still underway to determine how to calculate greenhouse gas emissions and sequestration in the future pricing system.
