Special wastes

Certain wastes need targetted programmes to ensure their disposal is environmentally safe. These "Special Wastes" are usually hazardous and are a national issue. The Ministry has targetted programmes for the following special wastes:

Batteries
Used Oil
End-of-life tyres
Agrichemicals
E-waste
Nappies
Household lighting

These wastes are disposed throughout New Zealand, and are often disposed of improperly (with potentially large environmental effects).
